All baseball bats in JBO, Inc. will be either "BBCOR", "BPF 1.15", or "USABaseball" certified. Umpires are required to perform a pre-game inspection of all equipment, especially bats, to ensure proper certification.
What is BBCOR?
BBCOR stands for Bat-Ball Coefficient of Restitution. The ruling went into effect for college on January 1, 2011 and for high school on January 1, 2012. A BBCOR bat is a big barrel bat that measures 2 5/8” with a minus 3 ounce difference from the length of the bat and is made by an approved bat licensee. The BBCOR mark must be permanently stamped on the bat for easy recognition.
The BBCOR approved bats range from 31 inches to 34 inches in length and are required for play at the high school and college levels.
What is BPF?
BPF stands for Bat Performance Factor. The BPF standard measures how fast a ball can come off the bat. The ruling for USSSA 1.15 BPF certification went into effect on January 1, 2012 for all youth and senior league bats (both small and big barrel) to be used in USSSA play. The USSSA 1.15 BPF, just like the BBCOR stamp, must be permanently stamped on the bat for easy recognition.
What is USA Baseball?
Effective January 1, 2018, all leagues governed by USA Baseball will require bats to have a USA Baseball Stamp. AABC, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, Dixie Youth, Little League, and Pony baseball all fall under these new rules. All USA approved bats will be stamped with the USA Baseball licensing mark, indicating it is permissible for play in leagues and tournaments under the USA umbrella.
To identify JBO sanctioned youth bats, look for one of the following stamps on the taper of the bat.
